Garhwa: Two schoolgirls drowned in the Sone river under Ketar police station limits in Garhwa district on Monday morning, while a third girl was rescued, police said.The deceased were identified as Khushboo Kumari (14), a Class IX student, and Priya Kumari (13), a Class VII student.Sources said the girls had accompanied women from Pachadumar village to collect water from the river for jalabhishek at the Maa Bhagwati temple on the second Monday of Shravan.The two girls reportedly ventured into deep water while taking a selfie and drowned. Villagers entered the river to rescue them but were unable to locate their bodies. A third girl was rescued.Local residents demanded that the district administration deploy an NDRF team. The search continued with the help of villagers until late Monday.Ketar police station officer-in-charge Arun Kumar Rawani and BDO Prashant Kumar reached the spot and reviewed the search operation, officials said.
