Kolkata: WWF-India has invited schools across the country to participate in the Wild Wisdom Global Challenge (WWGC) 2026, an international learning initiative designed to encourage students to explore nature, develop environmental awareness and take meaningful action for the planet.Open to students of Grades 6 to 9, the challenge combines quizzes, curated learning resources and expert-led sessions in a multi-level journey from the classroom to the global stage. This year, the quiz takes students into the fascinating world of oceans, exploring their biodiversity, mysteries and vital role in sustaining life on Earth.Registration for the challenge is free, with schools able to enrol until August 15, 2026. The initiative has received the endorsement of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for the fourth consecutive time. The CBSE has also endorsed the quiz to encourage participation by Kendriya Vidyalayas, while the Directorate of School Education, Government of West Bengal, has issued a circular urging government schools and DIETs to promote participation.The challenge witnessed a significant response last year, with more than 3,500 schools from 28 states and eight Union Territories taking part. In India alone, over 4.2 lakh students participated. Students of Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara, Kerala, won the India round in 2025.India also achieved a remarkable feat at the international level last year, securing first place in the global finals against teams from five countries and completing a hat-trick of international victories.The 2026 edition has already generated considerable interest in eastern India. According to WWF-India, around 40,000 students from 150 schools across West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand have registered to participate.With its focus on learning rather than competition alone, WWF-India describes the Wild Wisdom Global Challenge as an opportunity for young learners to deepen their understanding of the natural world and become informed, environmentally responsible citizens.
