Kanpur: Police solved the July 14 murder of a dairy operator in the Bidhnu area of the district. According to the police, the dairy operator, whose body was found on a cot in front of his cattle shed in Bidhnu, was killed by his cousin while he was asleep. A benzidine test conducted on Shivam and others revealed bloodstains on Shivam’s fingernails and lower clothing. After collecting evidence, the police arrested Shivam and took him into custody on Monday. The body of 25-year-old dairy businessman Avnish Yadav was found on a cot near the cattle shed, about 100 metres from his home, on the morning of July 14. Avnish was killed with a sharp weapon. His elder brother, Manish, suspected their neighbours and cousins Shivam and Saurabh, citing past conflicts.Initially, due to insufficient evidence, the police filed a case against an unknown individual and began their investigation. They reviewed CCTV footage from nearby village streets but found no leads. The police questioned family members and villagers about past disputes and possible romantic links, conducting benzidine tests on suspects. The tests showed bloodstains on Shivam’s fingernails and lower garments.During questioning, Shivam admitted to having a confrontation with Avnish near Reshu Yadav’s shop three nights before the incident on July 11. Further investigation revealed that during the July 11 altercation, Shivam had threatened Avnish’s life.Additionally, two years back, a dispute over water collection at a hand pump led to Avnish hitting Shivam’s uncle with a stick. Station officer Jitendra Pratap Singh confirmed Shivam’s arrest on Monday. “Shivam provided unclear information about the murder weapon, necessitating his future custody for its recovery,” Singh added.
