Times News NetworkKanpur: A speeding truck rammed into an SUV carrying devotees in Jalaun who were returning to Kanpur from Ujjain late on Saturday night, leaving two youths seriously injured. One of them later died during treatment in Kanpur.The accident took place near the Kotra overbridge on the Kanpur-Jhansi highway in the Ajit police station area, when the truck, coming from the Jhansi side, hit the vehicle from behind, police said.According to information, Shivam Verma (30), Ankit Verma, Nikhar, Shashank and another Ankit, residents of Sarafa Bazaar Mandi Chowk in the Moolganj police station area of Kanpur Nagar, went with their cousins and friends in an SUV to offer prayers at the Mahakal temple in Ujjain.

While returning on Saturday night, some people stopped the car and got down near the Kotra overbridge when a speeding, uncontrolled truck rammed hard into the stationary Innova from behind. The impact completely damaged the rear portion of the car and screams erupted at the spot.Police reached the spot after receiving information, pulled out the injured with the help of local people and sent them to the Government medical college in a toll ambulance.Doctors at the medical college referred seriously injured Shivam Verma and Ankit to Kanpur after assessing their condition. Shivam (30) died during treatment in Kanpur, while treatment of the other injured person continues.
