T’puram: The student police cadet (SPC) unit of Govt Higher Secondary School, Marayamuttom, near Neyyattinkara, is set to deploy 88 student volunteers as ‘Toofan Ambassadors’ to strengthen awareness and vigilance against substance abuse.The initiative aims to promote social responsibility among students and foster a drug-free culture on school campuses and in surrounding communities. The training programme for the ambassadors will be inaugurated as part of SPC Day celebrations before the conclusion of SPC Week on Sunday.The selected students will undergo seven days of specialised training before taking up their responsibilities. They will wear a special ‘Toofan Ambassador’ badge along with their school and SPC uniforms while conducting awareness and monitoring activities.The ambassadors will educate fellow students about the dangers of substance abuse and remain vigilant against drug use and trafficking. They will also help ensure that information related to suspected drug activities is promptly shared with the excise and police departments for necessary action.School principal Bindu Rani said the initiative would empower students to become responsible leaders in the fight against substance abuse and help create a safe and healthy environment within the school and wider community.The ambassadors were formally announced during the SPC Day celebrations, where the initiative’s official logo was also unveiled.Teachers and parents said the programme could serve as a model for schools across Kerala amid growing concerns over substance abuse among youngsters.
