Gurgaon: Three days after the bike he was travelling on was hit by a speeding car near Basai flyover, a 27-year-old Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon worker has succumbed to his injuries, police said. His colleague, who was riding pillion, was critically injured in the accident and remains under treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.The incident took place on Monday between 4am and 5am, when the two, Rupesh and Avant, were heading for their night-duty shift. When they reached Dwarka Road, a car being driven negligently rammed into them.Both Rupesh and Avant were gravely injured in the collision. The car driver fled the spot and left his vehicle behind. Police later seized the car.Passersby called an ambulance and rushed the injured men to Govt Hospital in Sector 10, from where they were referred to Safdarjung Hospital owing to the seriousness of their injuries.The accident came to police’s attention after the hospital filed medico-legal reports. On Wednesday, Avant’s family told police he had not regained consciousness, so his statement could not be recorded.On Thursday, Rupesh’s father informed police that he had died. Following this, he lodged a complaint and sought strict action against the car driver.On the basis of the complaint and the police inquiry, a case was registered on Friday at Sector 9A Police Station under Sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 106(a) (causing death by negligence) and 125(a) (causing hurt or grievous hurt by a rash or negligent act endangering human life) of BNS.“An investigation into the matter has begun. Police have retained the offending car at the spot following the accident, and the driver will be traced soon,” an officer involved with the probe said.
