Kanpur: Intermittent sunshine amid cloudy skies pushed up temperatures in Kanpur Nagar on Friday, with the maximum temperature rising to 31.5°C, 3.1°C higher than the previous day. The minimum temperature remained almost unchanged at 24.6°C.According to the CSA University weather observatory, the city recorded 18.2mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.Although the maximum relative humidity was recorded at 95%, morning showers and cool winds kept the weather pleasant and prevented sultry conditions from developing.The city witnessed showers early in the morning, followed by intermittent drizzle till around 8am. Dense cloud cover developed several times during the day, raising the possibility of more rain, but south-easterly winds dispersed the clouds.The city witnessed another spell of light drizzle for a few minutes around 5pm. South-easterly winds blew at around 5.3 kmph.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms across all districts of the Kanpur division over the next 24 hours.The weather department said cloudy conditions are likely to persist under the influence of an active monsoon trough and cyclonic circulation.Some areas may receive intermittent heavy showers, while maximum temperatures are likely to remain 3°C to 4°C below normal, it said.In Kanpur Nagar, the sky is likely to remain heavily overcast, with a high probability of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and scattered rainfall, particularly during the afternoon.S N Sunil Pandey, a weather expert at CSA University, said increased atmospheric moisture and the formation of new weather systems were strengthening the flow of moisture into the region.“The Kanpur division is likely to experience cloudy skies from Aug 8 to Aug 10. Isolated pockets may receive intermittent light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms and lightning,” he said..
