Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for July 22, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated parts of North and South Goa. The IMD also forecasted moderate to heavy spells of rain and strong winds reaching speeds of 40-50kmph, gusting up to 60kmph in inland areas and along the coast.Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea, particularly along and off the South Maharashtra-Goa coasts, until July 25.The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a high wave alert for the Goan coast. From Chapora to Panaji (Malim) in North Goa, and from Santarem Point (Vasco) to Kolamb in South Goa, rough sea conditions with waves up to 3.5m height are expected. The alert remains valid until 8:30 p.m. on July 23. INCOIS has advised caution during marine operations or recreational activity near shorelines.As monsoon clouds gathered on Monday, downpours brought 52.6mm of rainfall to Panaji and 55mm of rainfall to Mopa from 8.30am to 5.30pm. As of this date, Goa has recorded 65 inches of total rainfall since June 1.
