Bhilwara: Naresh Meena, the chief of Bhagat Singh Sena, surrendered at Nagarfort police station in Tonk district Thursday in relation to the controversial Samraota SDM slap case of 2024. Following his surrender, he was presented before SC/ST Court in Tonk, which subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.Meena arrived at the police station accompanied by hundreds of supporters, prompting authorities to deploy a large number of police personnel in the area. In anticipation of large gatherings, prohibitory orders were enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) across Tonk, Deoli, and Uniara. District Collector Tina Dabi issued precautionary measures ahead of time to ensure law and order were maintained during the event.Previously, Meena had obtained conditional bail from Rajasthan High Court concerning allegations of assaulting an SDM during the Deoli-Uniara Assembly by-election in Nov 2024. However, SC/ST Court in Tonk cancelled this bail on July 13, 2026, citing violations of the bail conditions, which led him to surrender to the authorities.Prior to his surrender, Meena expressed his respect for the judiciary, saying, “I have complete respect for the judiciary, and it is because of this respect, I am surrendering today. The action against me is a well-planned conspiracy of the govt.”Once in custody, police escorted Meena to SC/ST Court under strict security measures. After the hearing concluded, the court ordered him to remain in judicial custody. Meena’s counsel, Fateh Meena, contended that the legal proceedings were biased and claimed that the defence was not accorded a fair opportunity to present its argument. He indicated that the legal team was preparing to file a petition and would seek further legal remedies as necessary.
