Cuttack: Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak was sworn in as a judge of Orissa high court on Monday.Chief Justice Harish Tandon administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Pathak at a ceremony in the high court premises. The ceremony was attended by all judges of the high court.With the joining of Justice Pathak, the number of judges in the high court has gone up to 19 against a sanctioned strength of 27.He was earlier a judge at Gauhati high court.The notification for his transfer was issued on July 14 by the ministry of law and justice (department of justice) following recommendation by the Supreme Court collegium.Born on August 28, 1965, Justice Pathak initially enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh in 1990 and specialised in civil, constitutional, land acquisition and service matters. He served as standing counsel of Gauhati HC and Assam govt’s education department till his appointment as additional judge of Gauhati HC on May 22, 2013. He was later appointed as a permanent judge on Nov 12, 2018.
