Mangaluru: VHP international president Alok Kumar on Thursday said the organisation will launch a nationwide movement to free Hindu temples from state government control and return their administration to devotees and the Hindu community.Referring to Kukke Subramanya temple, Kumar claimed crores of rupees from temple revenues flow into the state treasury. He said freeing government-controlled temples across the country could make over Rs 1,000 crore available for Hindu religious and educational activities.Questioning government oversight of temples, he asked why only Hindu temples remain under state control while mosques, churches, gurudwaras, Jain ashrams and Buddhist monasteries are independently managed. He said the VHP was confident of success, drawing parallels with the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.Kumar said a roadmap has been prepared to intensify the campaign in 2026, with VHP leaders planning to submit memorandums to chief ministers, governors, MPs and MLAs nationwide.On allegations of financial irregularities in Ayodhya Ram Mandir donations, he said the temple trust itself filed an FIR and sought an SIT probe. “We did not try to hide anything and openly acknowledged the wrongdoing,” he said. An investigation is underway under Supreme Court supervision. Kumar said those responsible should be convicted through a fast-track court before the end of 2026.
