Ranchi: Electoral registration officers (EROs) across Jharkhand will issue verification notices to 63,24,116 voters, following the publication of the draft electoral roll containing 2,21,01,249 voters, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said on Thursday.The notices will be served on voters falling under categories identified for verification and scrutiny as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.According to the CEO’s office, 14,03,205 voters have been placed in the “no mapping” category. These are electors whose names do not appear in the 2003 electoral roll, when the last SIR was conducted in Jharkhand, but are present in the 2026 electoral roll and have submitted enumeration forms during the first phase of the current revision exercise.Another 3,65,684 voters have been flagged under the Demographic Similar Entries (DSE) category, which relates to potentially duplicate voter records based on demographic similarities. The largest group comprises 45,55,227 voters identified under the “logical discrepancy” category, according to election officials.Officials said scrutiny of enumeration forms submitted during the first phase of the SIR is currently under way. If any doubt arises regarding a voter’s eligibility during the verification process, the ERO concerned may issue a notice seeking clarification and supporting documents.The verification process will also cover applications submitted through Form 6, Form 6A, Form 7 and Form 8, which relate to inclusion, overseas electors, objections and corrections in the electoral roll.The CEO’s office clarified that the “Other” category, meant for additional cases requiring scrutiny, currently has zero voters.Chief electoral officer K Ravi Kumar said the exercise is aimed at ensuring the accuracy of the electoral roll by addressing issues related to eligibility, duplication and inconsistencies in voter records before publication of the final roll.The claims and objections period began immediately after the draft electoral roll was published on Wednesday and will remain open for one month. The SIR exercise began with the enumeration phase on June 30 and continued till July 29.Officials stressed that no final decision on any voter entry would be taken until those receiving notices are given an opportunity to respond and submit supporting documents.
