Nagpur: Garbage collection vehicles across Nagpur may soon be used to spread awareness about ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with mayor Neeta Thakre directing civic administration to broadcast audio messages on the exercise through the city’s door-to-door waste collection fleet.The decision was announced at a meeting convened by the administration with representatives of political parties at Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Hall on Wednesday. Thakre said garbage collection vehicles, which reach nearly every household daily, could effectively educate citizens about the revision exercise and encourage them to cooperate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during voter verification.The mayor also appealed corporators and BLOs to work in close coordination to complete the city’s electoral roll revision within next 10 days. She said BLOs would lead the exercise, while corporators should assist them in identifying electors, resolving local issues and ensuring no eligible voter is left out.District collector Kumar Ashirwad, during another meeting, urged corporators and representatives of political parties to support BLOs, saying field verification had become critical as many forms were submitted with incomplete addresses. He said cases of migration, duplicate entries and deceased voters could only be verified through door-to-door visits and directed BLOs to ensure no household in their assigned areas is left unvisited. He also called upon political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to strengthen the verification process.Additional collector Pravin Mahire said the administration aims to complete the remaining digital registration work within next 10 days. Of the district’s 46.38 lakh electors, around 62% of voter data has already been digitised, he said, adding coordinated efforts by election officials, corporators and political representatives would be crucial to complete the exercise on time.Officials reiterated the objective of SIR is to prepare an accurate and inclusive electoral roll by ensuring that every eligible voter is included while removing duplicate and ineligible entries through comprehensive field verification.
