BENGALURU: Karnataka is set to introduce what could become India’s first dedicated women’s health policy, with its first phase focusing on menopause and perimenopause, health minister UT Khader announced on Tuesday.“We have a general health policy, but there is no separate women’s health policy anywhere in the country,” Khader said.“Women’s health programmes have often been given lower priority within broader health policies. We will soon bring out a dedicated women’s health policy,” said the minister.

The first initiative, Ruthuthaare, aims to improve awareness, early identification and support for women undergoing the menopausal transition.Kannada actress and former MP Ramya, who has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the initiative, said menopause remains poorly understood even among urban women, making awareness efforts in rural areas even more critical.
