Rourkela: An expired medicine allegedly issued at the Niramaya medicine centre of Bargarh community health centre (CHC) to a 15-year-old boy reportedly led to dizziness and vomiting after consumption. Chief district medical officer, Bargarh, Dr Prasant Kishore Dash on Tuesday directed the in charge of Bargarh CHC to conduct an inquiry and submit a report.According to the allegation, Mukesh Sahu (15) of Nilibandha Pada in Bargarh district, had suffered a cut injury on his finger and visited Bargarh CHC three days ago. He was prescribed an antibiotic, Cefpodoxime Proxetil, and asked to collect it from the Niramaya medicine counter. After taking the medicine, Mukesh reportedly developed dizziness and vomiting. The family said they later checked the strip and found it was expired in May.Mukesh’s family has demanded a thorough inquiry and action against those responsible. “I came to know about it today. I have directed the in charge of Bargarh CHC to conduct an inquiry and submit the report for further action,” Dash said, adding that the medicine strip should have been checked by the pharmacist before being issued.
