Mumbai: A delivery boy working with a food app was arrested by Powai police for stealing expensive gadgets from the residence of a software engineer. Investigations revealed that the accused, Shailesh Gangurde, 44, was involved in six other offences in the past.The software engineer lives with his roommates in Powai. On July 2, he woke up around 7.15 am and stepped out of the house to make a phone call as his roommates were still asleep. He left the door to the apartment open. When he returned sometime later, his MacBook Pro costing Rs 2 lakh and a friend’s iPhone 15 worth Rs 60,000 were missing. After searching everywhere in the house, a complaint was lodged with Powai police.As part of their probe, the police team went through footage from surveillance cameras in the vicinity. They learnt that a food delivery boy visited the building at the time of the theft. They tracked him down to Ghatkopar and arrested him. During the investigation, it was learnt that he was working with the food app for the past three years and would steal valuables from houses where the door was left open.Three of the offences committed by him were in Powai. Police have recovered stolen valuables worth Rs 2.8 lakh from him.
