Patna: Two teenagers were feared drowned while taking a holy dip in the Bagmati river on the first Monday of the holy month of Shravan in East Champaran district on Monday.A large number of devotees had gathered at Devapur Sangam Ghat to collect holy water for Jalabhishek. Three teenagers entered the river and ventured into deep water. While one managed to swim to safety, two were swept away by the strong current and went missing.Police identified the missing teenagers as Kamlesh Kumar (17) and Roshan Kumar (14), both residents of Lalbegia village under Pachpakri police station area.The incident triggered panic among local residents and the victims’ families. Villagers and boatmen launched a search operation immediately, but the two could not be traced till late evening.After receiving information, circle officer Ritesh Kumar Seth and Pachpakri SHO Uttam Kumar reached the spot with a police team and supervised rescue efforts with the help of local divers and boatmen.“The victims had gone to take a holy dip and collect water for Jalabhishek to Lord Shiva on the first Monday of Shravan. The administration has informed the NDRF for a professional search operation. Rescue efforts are being hampered by the strong current and the river’s depth. The search will resume on Tuesday and continue until both victims are traced,” the SHO said.
