Mumbai: A 21-year-old woman was arrested by the Customs for trying to smuggle out 99 bottles of phensedyl (cough syrup) under the NDPS act. Officials said that the syrup contains Triprolidine hydrochloride and codeine phosphate, a controlled narcotic substance under the NDPS act.The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs on Sunday on specific intelligence intercepted Layba Noor while she was trying to board Mumbai-Riyadh flight at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International terminals. On checking her baggage resulted in recovery of 99 bottles of Phensedyl CoughSyrup of 100 ml having value of Rs 22, 374 . Phensedyl Cough syrup if imported or exported needs thevalid prescription and export permission or license and No Objection Certificate from Drug Controller General of India, however, the said passenger failed to produce any valid documents authorizing export. She was booked under the NDPS act and remanded to judicial custody.
