Lucknow: A 25-year-old criminal, Suraj Soni from Sitapur, was arrested following an encounter with the police in Krishnanagar area of Lucknow late Sunday night.Police said Soni, who had over 20 criminal cases against him, had executed a burglary in Sarojininagar earlier this week.DCP, south zone, Nipun Agarwal, said that a special team was tracking Soni after multiple complaints of theft and snatching in Lucknow. Acting on a tip-off about his movement, police intercepted him near Anora turn.“When asked to surrender, Soni opened fire on the police team, forcing the cops to retaliate. In the exchange of fire, he sustained gunshot injury on his leg. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is out of danger,” said Agarwal.Police records reveal that Soni was staying in a rented accommodation in Amausi. His history sheet includes cases of robbery, snatching, theft, and assault in Sitapur and Lucknow districts.“Soni was a habitual offender with over 20 cases. He was wanted in connection with a burglary case in Sarojininagar,” an officer said.
