Nagpur: The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Nagpur Rural Police cracked a blind murder case in Kalmeshwar police station limits and arrested two accused after overcoming challenges like lack of evidence, eyewitnesses or initial clues.The team achieved the breakthrough through tactical interrogation, technical analysis, CCTV footage review, and confidential information.The body of an unidentified man was found on July 20 in the forest area near a well at Mangli village under Kalmeshwar police station.Initially registered as an accidental death, the case was converted to murder under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after the autopsy confirmed homicide. The LCB joined hands with local police for a parallel probe under senior superintendent of Police Harssh A Poddar and addl superintendent of police Anil Mhaske, and led by Police Inspector Ankush Mane.The face of the deceased was severely decomposed, making identification difficult. After persistent efforts, the LCB identified the victim as Atul Tiwari (25), a resident of Hingna Road. A missing person complaint had been filed at MIDC police station on July 22 this month.Investigation revealed that one of Tiwari’s acquaintances, Yogesh Popalghat, was last seen with him. Upon interrogation, Popalghat confessed that he and a common acquaintance, Manoj Narnaware, conspired to kill Tiwari on July 17 over a monetary dispute, said police.Popalghat and Narnaware (28), a native of Madhya Pradesh, were arrested on Sunday after a thorough probe. Further investigation is underway, said police.
