Rourkela: A search operation was launched in Sundargarh district’s Bonai sub-division on Sunday after a 28-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband, her body stuffed in a gunny bag and dumped into the Brahmani river, police said.According to investigators, Laxman Oram (25) and Jayanti Kujur got married six years ago and started living in Jarda village. Recently, marital discord arose after Jayanti started a relationship with another man from the same village. She left her home and began living with her lover two months ago.On Saturday, the woman’s sister lodged a complaint at Gurundia police station, alleging Jayanti had been murdered by her husband.Investigation revealed that Laxman had summoned Jayanti to a secluded location on Friday afternoon, where he allegedly strangled her. He initially hid the body in a nearby forest and later that night placed it in a gunny bag before dumping it in the Brahmani.Police and fire brigade personnel reached the site on Sunday morning and began search operation to recover the body.“We are searching for the accused and continuing efforts to recover the woman’s body. He will be arrested soon,” said R C Biswal, SDPO of Bonai.
