Kanpur: The body of a 42-year-old farmer was found with electrocution marks and a wire wrapped around his body inside a room at his house in Lakshmanpur village under the Narwal police station area on Friday morning.Shocked by her husband’s death, Sandhya, wife of the deceased Ram Singh, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance and was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition.According to police, Ram Singh was alone at home on Thursday night as his wife and three children had gone to a relative’s place. When Sandhya returned home the next day at around 10 am, her repeated knocks on the door went unanswered. She later entered the house with the help of a structure attached to a nearby temple and found her husband’s body inside the room.On receiving information, ACP Chakeri East Ashutosh Singh reached the spot with a police and forensic team and began an investigation.Singh said the death prima facie appeared to have been caused by electrocution. He said the farmer might have suffered the electric shock while fixing a wire in an electrical switchboard. However, he said the exact cause of death would be determined after the postmortem examination and forensic investigation. He added that the condition of the deceased’s wife was stable in the hospital and that further action would be taken based on a written complaint.
