Jaipur: Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), along with the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), Traffic Police and Saras Dairy, Friday launched a joint drive against illegal Saras Dairy booths, removing four unauthorised structures in Vaishali Nagar.The action follows a decision taken at JDA Traffic Control Board (TCB) meeting on July 22, where Saras Dairy flagged that several booths were operating illegally, alleging revenue loss and encroachments on footpaths and roads that were contributing to traffic congestion.Officials said Saras Dairy identified the unauthorised booths, while JDA, JMC and Traffic Police carried out the enforcement. The drive targets three categories of violations: booths operating without licence renewal, booths installed without permission, and licensed booths that have expanded beyond the sanctioned area by adding kiosks, tea stalls, restaurants or seating on public land.JDA Enforcement Wing DIG of Police Anand Sharma said 29 booths have been identified as completely illegal and will be removed, while only the encroached portions of the remaining licensed booths will be demolished. “The drive will continue until all identified encroachments are cleared,” he said.Officials said the exercise is part of a wider initiative to reclaim pedestrian spaces in line with Directorate of Urban Bodies’ directions and Supreme Court’s June 19 ruling affirming the right to safe and unobstructed footpaths as a fundamental right. The drive will be carried out in phases across the city.
