T’puram: The UDF has decided to implement Centre’s PM Shri (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) scheme, maintaining that the state cannot withdraw from the MoU the previous LDF govt had signed with the Union govt in Oct 2025. Addressing reporters after Thursday’s meeting, UDF convener Adoor Prakash said the govt would decide which educational institutions would be brought under the scheme after receiving the cabinet sub-committee report.He said the govt would continue its implementation as part of the commitments already made by the state. He said the education secretary of the previous govt had signed the MoU and the present govt was only carrying forward that process.The UDF stressed that Kerala was entitled to receive central funds and that such financial assistance was not an act of Centre’s generosity. The state is expected to move ahead with necessary procedures to secure central funding under the scheme, he said.Prakash said the UDF would hold monthly meetings to review govt policies and discuss the implementation of commitments made in its poll manifesto and the budget. The front decided to formulate recommendations for the govt on proposed legislation related to administrative reforms and land reforms and the proposed department for senior citizens.On the state’s liquor policy, he said a sub-committee would be constituted to study the issue and submit recommendations before the govt takes a final decision.Prakash indicated that discussions on appointments to boards and public sector corporations would be completed over the next few days. Prakash urged those appointed by the previous LDF govt to resign from positions in boards and corporations to facilitate a smooth transition.Earlier, CM V D Satheesan said the govt was committed to fulfilling every promise made to the people. The front had met to assess the work carried out since assuming office and to chart the future roadmap.
