Kolkata: State schools would have a revised syllabus from primary to higher secondary levels, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, state education minister Dipak Barman announced on Thursday.The school education department recently formed a new syllabus-cum-curriculum committee to review the curriculum at primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels at state schools. “The committee was formed with a long-term vision to revise the existing school syllabus to make it contemporary. The panel will review books for the 2027 session. We have a target to introduce a revised syllabus, aligned with NEP 2020 in 2028,” Barman told reporters. “The committee will make a thorough review of each subject’s syllabus and propose changes to the state. Based on their recommendations, the state will discuss and take final decisions accordingly.”The school education department has signed an MoU with the National Institute of Open Schooling to work on the identification, enrolment, academic support and certification of eligible out-of-school children at the secondary and higher secondary levels. Students can appear for the test from any part of the country, even after registering in Bengal, and they can study at their own pace, as they will have a five-year window to clear the exams.
