Patna: The special vigilance court on Wednesday convicted Ramashankar Singh, the then sub-inspector of Udawantnagar police station in Bhojpur, in a 15-year-old bribery case. The court sentenced Ramashankar Singh to two years’ rigorous imprisonment and a Rs 10,000 fine under Section 7 of PC Act and two years’ rigorous imprisonment plus a Rs 10,000 fine. Both sentences will run concurrently. In case of non-payment of the fine, he will have to undergo three months’ simple imprisonment.The court held him guilty under Section 7 and Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in a case registered at the vigilance police station in 2011. The bribe was demanded from an accused to keep the sections intact and to record the case diary accordingly.According to VIB, “The complainant Ajit Kumar Singh, son of late Siddhanath Singh and a resident of Udawantnagar in Bhojpur, had alleged that the then SI Ramashankar Singh demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from him. The bribe was demanded to keep the sections intact and to record the case diary accordingly in a case registered at Udwantnagar police station in 2011.”
