Rajkot: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trapped a government sub-auditor and a middleman in a Rs 14,000 bribery case linked to the renewal of a money-lending (finance) licence in Jamnagar.An auditor named in the case is absconding.According to the ACB, the complainant had applied to the District Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Jamnagar, for renewal of a finance licence. The complainant alleged that Nilesh Chhapiya, a private individual, demanded a bribe of Rs 14,000 on behalf of M N Jethwa, auditor grade-I (Class II), and Digvijaygiri Gosai, sub-auditor, to process the application.The complainant later met Jethwa, who directed him to pay the amount to Chhapiya.Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap. During the operation, Chhapiya asked the complainant to transfer the bribe through Google Pay instead of cash. After the complainant transferred Rs 14,000 online, Chhapiya confirmed receipt of the money and informed Gosai that the payment had been received.Chhapiya and Gosai were arrested during the trap, while Jethwa was not found.
