Bhilwara: A 24-year-old youth died on the spot after coming in contact with electric current from a pole in rainwater on Mahavir Marg in Malpura town of Tonk district Tuesday evening. The incident triggered protests by members of the Regar community, who staged a sit-in outside Malpura District Hospital demanding action against those responsible and compensation for the victim’s family Wednesday. Police said the deceased, identified as Rahul Regar, a resident of Ramnagar, was returning home after wage work in the market when rainwater accumulated on the road and he was electrocuted near an electric pole. A police complaint was registered on the family’s report. Govt officials, including Malpura SDM Kapil Sharma, Dy SP Ashish Prajapat and Malpura police station in-charge Chenaram Beda, held talks with protesters throughout the day. By Wednesday evening, an agreement was reached under which the family was assured a contractual job for one relative, ₹5 lakh from the Chief Minister Relief Fund, ₹5 lakh financial assistance arranged by the administration with the help of Bhamashahs, and additional assistance from the electricity corporation. After the agreement, the post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family.
