Ranchi: Urban assembly constituencies have emerged as outliers in Jharkhand’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with large shares of voters marked absent or untraceable during door-to-door verification.The enumeration phase ended Wednesday. Draft electoral rolls will be published Aug 5, opening the month-long claims and objections window.Ranchi constituency had 1,16,093 voters, or 29.41% of its electorate, marked absent or untraceable, while 3.17% were listed as deceased, according to the SIR bulletin. In Hatia, 1,31,530 voters (23.92%) were marked absent or untraceable and 3.12% deceased.Other constituencies with high absent or untraceable shares included Jamshedpur West (76,296 voters; 19.43%), Dhanbad (19.15%), Kanke (16.65%) and Bokaro (14.44%). Their deceased shares were 1.85%, 2.27%, 3.63% and 2.65%, respectively, against the statewide average of 2.89%.These classifications are based on field verification and do not constitute final deletion from the rolls. Electors can seek corrections during the claims and objections period.Statewide, 7.64 lakh electors were marked deceased, 14.6 lakh absent or untraceable and 15.94 lakh permanently shifted. Enumeration forms were distributed and digitised for nearly all 2.64 crore electors, with over 2.2 crore recorded as “already enrolled”.Claims and objections can be filed until Sept 4. Final rolls are scheduled for publication on Oct 7.
