Kota: A special court dealing with atrocities against women cases in Kota Tuesday sentenced a man, his father and two brothers to life imprisonment for murdering the man’s wife and dumping her body in a canal in 2023. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 on each convict.The decomposed body of the victim, Shalu Mahawar, wife of Banty Mahawar and a resident of Ambedkar Colony under Railway Colony police station area, was recovered from Roteda minor canal in Aug 2023.Assistant director (prosecution) Balram Meena said the court convicted Banty Mahawar, his father Pannalal, and his brothers Dilip and Ravi for murdering Shalu.According to the prosecution, Shalu’s sister Jyoti lodged a complaint alleging that the four accused killed Shalu by repeatedly hitting her with a stone sometime between July 31 and Aug 2, 2023, and buried her body inside their house. When the body began decomposing and emitting a foul smell, they allegedly dumped it into the nearby minor canal to destroy evidence.During the investigation, police arrested Banty Mahawar, who allegedly confessed to committing the crime along with his father and brothers. Based on witness testimonies and other evidence, the court convicted all four on charges of murder and destruction of evidence.
