KISHNAGIRI: Two men died when a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) hit a two-wheeler they were travelling on near Krishnagiri on Tuesday evening.The deceased have been identified as M Ajith Kumar, 28, and V Janarthanan, 26, of Thogarapalli village. Their friend, S Gnaneshwaran, 24, suffered serious injuries in the accident.The Pochampally police said the accident happened on the Krishnagiri-Thiruvannamalai road around 8pm when the trio, who were labourers, were returning home after attending a funeral at Billakottai. The speeding MPV hit their two-wheeler, and the trio fell on the road. “Both Ajith Kumar and Janarthanan died on the spot while Gnaneshwaran suffered serious injuries,” said an officer at Pochampally police station. Police recovered the bodies and sent them to the Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. The injured man was admitted to the same hospital.Relatives of the deceased and the public gathered at the accident spot and held a road blockade, demanding additional lighting on the road. The protest affected traffic for an hour on Tuesday night. The protesters dispersed after police held peace talks with them.The Pochampally police registered a case.
