Prayagraj: A 35-year-old man was arrested by Pratapgarh police on Tuesday for allegedly killing his 85-year-old father, following a dispute over domestic issues. The accused, Vijay Dwivedi, murdered his father Jagdish on July 15, buried the body inside the house and fled.Police said the case came to light when the victim’s elder son, who lives in Gurugram, Haryana, returned home on July 22 and found both his younger brother Vijay Dwivedi and their father missing. When he inquired about them, neighbours said they had not seen either of them for the past one week. On July 23, police opened the house in the presence of family members and noticed freshly dug earth and a foul smell. A team from Maheshganj police station recovered the body and launched a search to arrest the accused. An FIR under the relevant sections was subsequently registered.During interrogation, the accused allegedly told police that he had a dispute with his father on July 15 and beat him to death. After realising that his father had died, he dug a pit inside the house to conceal the body and fled to Haryana. Police arrested him while he was on his way to meet his wife and children.
