Times News NetworkKanpur: A 14-year-old student was attacked by a troop of 15 to 20 monkeys on Sunday afternoon at Bandariya Park in Shyam Nagar under Chakeri police station area of Kanpur. He suffered serious bite injuries.According to local people, the monkeys bit the student at several places and tore off about three inches of flesh from his leg. Passersby chased the monkeys away with sticks and stones and rescued him, residents said. After the incident, local people expressed anger over the growing menace of monkeys in the park.The student, Akash Rajput, son of Rajay Rajput and a resident of Dehli Sujanpur village, was playing at the park with his friends Rahul and Ankush on Sunday afternoon. At around 2 pm, 15 to 20 monkeys suddenly attacked him. Rahul and Ankush escaped by running away, but Akash was surrounded and the monkeys kept biting and scratching him continuously, the residents said.Family members and local people took the injured boy to Kanshiram Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Doctors said that he suffered serious “deep monkey bite” wounds and that without timely treatment there could have been a risk of infection and other complications.Local residents said that monkey menace in nearby areas has increased continuously, and that in the past one year more than two dozen people were injured in monkey attacks. They alleged that despite repeated complaints to the Nagar Nigam and the forest department, no concrete action was taken so far, leaving the safety of children and the elderly at risk.
