Kolkata: Kolkata Police have launched investigations into two separate cases of financial fraud and cheating recorded across different parts of the city, involving misappropriation of funds, forged business records, and fake loan recovery schemes. In the first incident, officers at Entally Police Station registered a major financial fraud case following a directive from the Sealdah Court under Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The complainant, a resident of Convent Road, alleged that three business partners operating out of multiple construction and joint venture firms conspired to cheat him and his family.According to police, the accused dishonestly induced the victim’s family to invest heavily in their partnership businesses on and before April 2025. During an account reconciliation on April 11, 2025, the accused formally acknowledged an outstanding liability of Rs 78,32,361 owed to the investor but failed to repay the amount. Furthermore, they allegedly tricked the victim into transferring an additional Rs 13,93,518 under the false pretext of clearing government tax dues, which was subsequently siphoned off.The fraudsters reportedly manipulated financial statements, balance sheets, and tax returns, using forged documents to conceal the actual accounts. When the victim pressed for a final settlement and return of the money, the accused criminally intimidated him and his family at their residence with dire consequences. Police have booked the three accused under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, covering charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, breach of trust, forgery, and criminal intimidation. In a separate incident investigated by Ekbalpore Police, a resident of Maulana Mohammad Ali Road fell victim to an impersonation scam between June 2 and June 29. The complainant alleged that an individual posing as an authorized recovery agent of a leading private finance company dishonestly induced her to pay Rs 45,145 towards her ongoing loan repayments. The victim entrusted the accused with Rs 30,000 in cash and transferred Rs 15,145 via a digital payment app. However, instead of depositing the collection with the finance firm, the fake agent misappropriated the entire sum for his personal use, causing direct financial loss to the borrower.Police confirmed that investigations into both cases are actively underway to trace the misappropriated funds and apprehend all individuals involved.
