Jalandhar: Punjab Police on Saturday claimed to have busted an alleged Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module and seized an improvised explosive device (IED) packed with 1.3 kg of explosives from a suspect in Jalandhar.Director general of police Gaurav Yadav said the module, allegedly backed by Pakistan’s ISI, was being operated by foreign-based handlers. The IED, packed with shrapnel and ball bearings, indicated preparations for a high-impact attack aimed at disturbing public peace, he said.The accused, Satbir Singh of Padiana village in Adampur, Jalandhar, was arrested in a joint operation by the counter-intelligence (CI) wing of Jalandhar, and Jalandhar rural police.

According to the DGP, the CI wing had received inputs that an operative of the alleged module had retrieved a consignment of explosives on the directions of foreign-based handlers. Police teams laid a naka near Dhandaur village, intercepted Satbir’s motorcycle and seized the IED from a bag during the search.Police said investigations were under way to establish forward and backward linkages and identify foreign handlers and local support network allegedly involved in the conspiracy. A case has been registered at Patara police station under sections 113(1) and 113(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, and Section 25(1)(b)(a) of the Arms Act.
