Jhansi: An accidental blowout during the laying of an underground LPGpipeline near a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Jhansi caused extensivedamage to the bank premises after muddy water gushed through a damagedsection of the floor, flooding the branch with ankle-deep slush.According to police, the incident occurred shortly after midnight onSaturday when an outsourced drilling agency engaged in laying an LPGpipeline was carrying out work along service laneof the Shivpuri Highway in Raksa area. During the drilling operationbeneath the vicinity of the bank building, a technical snag allegedlytriggered a sudden underground blowout.The impact damaged nearly 150 sq ft of flooring inside the SBI branch,allowing a large quantity of muddy water to seep into the premises. Thewater inundated counters and other sections of the branch. However, the cash vault and record roomremained unaffected.

The incident came to light on Sunday morning when the bank’s security guardopened the branch and found the premises submerged in muddy water. Heimmediately alerted authorities, following which police personnel andsenior bank officials rushed to the spot.Circle Officer (Sadar) Priya Singh said preliminary investigations suggestthat agency executing the pipeline work may not have adhered to theprescribed safety norms while carrying out drilling operations.
