“AI may give me inputs, but the final call will be mine. It’s about the life and death of soldiers, and hence it will always be human beings who take decisions in war,” he said, adding that start-ups, drones and emerging technologies would play an increasingly important role in India’s defence ecosystem.He warned that misinformation, disinformation and false narratives posed a serious threat to national unity. “The war today’s youngsters may face will be more complex. Enemies will try to attack minds, manipulate information and divide society. Every citizen must therefore become a soldier in their own right,” Jog said.Drawing lessons from the Kargil War, he recalled how soldiers climbed treacherous mountain heights carrying loads of nearly 25 kg while enemy troops occupied commanding positions above them. “They never asked why or said it was impossible. They found a way to get the task done. That is something we should imbibe in our daily lives,” he said.Calling upon students to imbibe discipline, integrity, courage, resilience and patriotism, Jog said soldierly conduct did not require carrying a weapon. “Choose the harder right over the easier wrong, never give up and strive for excellence. Excellence in everyday life is the ultimate form of patriotism,” he said.Jog said 527 soldiers made the supreme sacrifice during the conflict, many of them below the age of 25. “They answered a call much higher than themselves. They gave their today for our better tomorrow,” he said.
