Kolkata: Centre would consider revising retail petrol and diesel prices once the West Asia situation stabilises, NITI Aayog vice-chairperson Ashok Lahiri told TOI on the sidelines of an event here on Sunday. He added that the Centre was first taking steps to improve energy efficiency and to diversify its crude import.Lahiri’s comments come at a time when the crude oil price per barrel — which shot up to well over $100 when the West Asia crisis peaked — has plunged to $70 a barrel. The reduction in the price of crude, however, has not reflected in retail prices of petrol and diesel.“Petrol and diesel prices would be revised when we feel the situation has stabilised. Right now, the prices are changing every day. We cannot revise the (retail) prices on a daily basis,” the NITI Aayog vice chairperson said.
