Ahmedabad: Heavy rainfall has triggered severe waterlogging across the Gujarat University (GU) campus, leaving students at the Samaras hostels struggling to cope with flooded premises.The Samaras boys’ and girls’ hostels on the campus were among the worst affected as continuous rain led to knee-deep water accumulation in several parts of the area. Rainwater entered the hostel premises and flooded the mess, forcing students to have their meals while standing in water.Students said they had to wade through water to move in and out of the hostels, while many remained confined indoors due to the flooding.According to students, waterlogging during the monsoon has been a recurring problem for several years.Similar scenes were reported from other parts of the campus, including areas near the Atal-Kalam Research Park where large stretches resembled waterbodies due to accumulated rainwater.Students have questioned the effectiveness of the campus drainage system, alleging that despite substantial spending on infrastructure and renovation projects, basic issues such as rainwater disposal remain unresolved.NSUI activists have also demanded immediate intervention by university authorities to address the problem and prevent its recurrence during future monsoons.
