Vadodara:A late-night return from a wedding ended in tragedy when a car carrying four family members plunged into the Narmada canal near Deroli village in Karjan taluka on Friday night. Two of them died in the accident, while the other two managed to escape.The victims, all residents of Diwalipura village in Vadodara taluka, were returning home after attending a wedding in Sayar village of Karjan taluka. The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the Nareshwar-Kurali road, causing the car to crash through the protective railing and fall into the canal.The group included three cousins — Naresh Patanvadia (43), Bharat Patanvadia (41), and Arvind Patanvadia (55) — and their nephew Hitesh Patanvadia (39), who was driving the car. According to a complaint filed by Naresh at Karjan police station, Hitesh was at the wheel, with Arvind in the front passenger seat, while Naresh and Bharat were in the back.As the car approached a turn near Deroli, Hitesh lost control and the vehicle plunged into the canal. The front portion submerged completely, while the rear remained above water. Naresh and Bharat managed to break out through a shattered rear window and swim to safety. Hitesh and Arvind, however, were trapped inside and drowned.The bodies were later recovered and taken to Karjan health centre for post-mortem.
