Panaji: FC Goa have added two more foreign players to their contingent for this season and are unlikely to add more players in a hurry. After the signings of Argentinian playmaker Francisco Feuillassier Abalo (Franchu), and Alex Vallejo, a former junior international with Spain, the Super Cup champions have added two more Spaniards: defender Alex Zalaya and forward Christian Borrego Isabel, popularly known as Chiki.“The four foreign players that we have signed were first choices,” a senior official told TOI late on Friday. “The signings give the team a very strong spine. The club will assess the squad during pre-season training and then decide if and where reinforcements are needed.”Goa have signed quality strikers in the past and believe they have found the right man in Chiki, who played regularly for FC Cartagena in Segunda, the second division in Spain, last season. At 29, the club believes, he will be in top shape while arriving in India.“Chiki is coming to India in the prime of his career. He is an aggressive forward, can defend from the front and go past players. He is extremely quick. While he may not be the tallest, he has the capacity to get on the end of crosses and sneak in to finish chances,” said the official.According to club sources, Chiki is a “similar profile” to the likes of Ferran Corominas, Roy Krishna and Adam Le Fondre, all of whom found success in front of goals in India.Zalaya, on the other hand, joins Goa after spending a major chunk of his career in Spain, featuring for multiple clubs. Known for his confidence on the ball, his addition will add experience and depth to the squad.Chiki and Zalaya are both friends, besides teammates at UE Cornella. Vallejo and Franchu have played together in Hungary.
