Buxar: Ravindra Nath Upadhyay (55), a Congress neta and former mukhiya of Banarpur panchayat in Chausa block of Buxar district, died in a road accident on Thursday afternoon.Police said Upadhyay was returning to his native village, Khilafatpur, from Buxar on a motorcycle when a nilgai suddenly crossed his path. His motorcycle collided with the animal, leaving him critically injured. Locals rushed him to Buxar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.On receiving information, Mufassil police station SHO Shambhu Bhagat reached the hospital, took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem. An investigation is underway, he said.Upadhyay was well known in the district for his social work. Apart from his political activities, he actively promoted sports and organised events for children. Former Buxar MLA Sanjay Tiwari termed his death an irreparable loss and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
