Rourkela: Tension gripped a hospital in Rourkela on Tuesday after a 17-year-old boy died during treatment, triggering protests by his family members and local residents.Police said the teenager, a resident of Sector 18 and whose mother is a Grade IV staff at the same hospital, was admitted on July 9 before undergoing gall stone surgery on July 14.Following his death, grieving family members and relatives allegedly assaulted some hospital staff, accusing them of medical negligence. The situation grew tensed as agitated relatives refused to disperse despite police intervention.Personnel from Raghunathpalli police station rushed to the hospital and were deployed to restore order. However, the family remained adamant, insisting that the doctor concerned appear before them and explain the circumstances leading to the death.The teen’s body has been kept in the hospital mortuary, but the family has refused to allow a post-mortem. “We are inquiring into the matter,” said S R Giri, sub-inspector of Raghunathpalli police station.
