Chandigarh: The Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has prepared a list of 140 govt officers and employees allegedly facing repeated complaints of demanding bribes, with bureau chief Arshinder Singh Chawla asserting that every accused would be investigated and brought to justice.Chairing a statewide review meeting of SPs and senior bureau officers at the SV&ACB headquarters in Panchkula on Wednesday, Chawla said the exercise was aimed at protecting citizens from corruption rather than targeting individuals. He directed all field units to update the list within a week if fresh information on habitual offenders emerged.“The objective is not merely to catch corrupt officials but to strengthen a culture of honesty, transparency and accountability across the govt system,” he said.Reviewing the bureau’s performance, Chawla said 92 successful trap and raid operations were conducted between Jan 2022 and June 2026, resulting in the arrest of several public servants allegedly caught accepting bribes. Calling corruption a menace that weakens governance “like termites”, Chawla instructed officers to act without regard to an accused’s rank or influence. He described complainants as the “backbone” of the bureau and directed officers to maintain regular contact with whistleblowers, ensure their confidentiality, and provide support from the trap stage through trial to secure convictions. To improve investigations, the bureau will expand the use of advanced surveillance and operational equipment across all ranges, he said. Chawla also ordered wider publicity of the anti-corruption helpline numbers, 1800-180-2022 and 1064, and closer coordination with deputy commissioners and district police chiefs.The bureau also honoured officers and staff with gold and silver medals for outstanding performance in anti-corruption operations during the first half of 2026.
