Bengaluru: Private engineering colleges surrendered over 10,000 engineering seats to Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) ahead of the announcement of the first round of counselling.Colleges feel these management seats might not find any takers. So instead of letting the seats go waste, colleges gave them to KEA so that the seats enter the pool that students can choose during counselling.Over 10,200 seats were given up by 89 colleges this time. The seats range from core branches like civil and mechanical to computer science and allied programmes. KEA had suggested to colleges and private universities that they surrender seats before the first round of counselling.This year, the demand for engineering colleges is high as admissions have witnessed an overwhelming response. Of the 91,724 engineering seats, 90,748 were allotted, leaving only 976 seats vacant. ComedK also noted an increase in interest, with 37,691 students registered for counselling.
