Lucknow: Tension prevailed at a private hospital in Amethi late Tuesday night after the death of a high court lawyer during treatment.The family alleged medical negligence and staged a protest which ended after police filed an FIR against the hospital owner and his assistant.The lawyer, Tarun Kumar Ojha (55), was a resident of Ashrafpur village of Amethi and practiced at the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad high court. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 20 after he complained of fever.Tarun’s father, Nand Kumar Ojha, said that his son’s condition continued to deteriorate during treatment. The family alleged that despite a continuous fall in his platelet count, the hospital failed to provide appropriate medical care and did not refer him to a higher medical centre even after his condition became critical.The FIR was registered against hospital owner Dr Raj Bahadur Yadav and his assistant Shailendra Maurya under the charges of death due to negligence.Tarun’s nephew Abhishek Ojha alleged that the hospital lacked blood bank, and the family had to arrange platelets on their own. He claimed the family repeatedly requested that the patient be referred to another hospital, but the hospital did not discharge him. According to the family, doctors said that he should be shifted to Lucknow only after his condition deteriorated.After the lawyer’s kin staged a protest, circle officer Atul Singh, along with police personnel from several police stations, reached the hospital to control the situation and held talks with the agitating family for several hours.SP, Amethi, Saravanan T, said that the CMO had formed a panel for autopsy and probe was being conducted.
