Bathinda: A Barnala highway gunfight on Tuesday led to the capture of two men, including a repeat offender linked to the gang of Canada-based Arsh Dalla.Primary suspect Arshdeep Singh, apprehended alongside associate Gursharan Singh, faces charges in 16 criminal cases across Punjab, including murder, attempted murder, weapons offences, and drug trafficking.Barnala’s senior superintendent of police, Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam, said officers laid a trap at an old toll plaza on the Barnala-Ludhiana highway at Mehal Kalan. When the team signalled a sedan to stop, the driver attempted to evade the barricade, and the occupants fired at cops. Police returned fire, intercepted the vehicle, and took both men into custody. Officers seized two unlicensed handguns — .30 and .32 calibre — along with some ammunition from the vehicle. A case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act was registered at the Mehal Kalan police station. Police are trying to trace the network’s supply chains for illegal weapons and drugs.
