Chennai: A 58-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl who was a domestic worker at his house.According to the prosecution, the convict from Ashok Nagar, had employed a domestic worker as his wife was frequently ill. The domestic worker had two daughters who often assisted her with the work.On March 23, 2020, while the man’s wife was away, he offered the domestic worker’s daughter a spiked drink, and raped her. He threatened her from telling anyone about the incident. When she avoided going to his house, the man forced her to return, threatening that he would upload a clip of the assault online. He proceeded to assault her repeatedly, said special public prosecutor S Anitha.The abuse came to light after the girl missed her periods. Her aunt took her to a hospital, where doctors confirmed she was pregnant. Following a complaint filed by the survivor’s mother, a case was registered under the Pocso Act, and the man was arrested. A subsequent DNA test conclusively established him as the perpetrator.Evaluating the evidence, Judge S Padma sentenced the man to life imprisonment and directed the state to pay ₹6 lakh in compensation to the survivor.
