Bettiah: In a bid to strengthen wildlife rescue operations during the monsoon season, a one-day workshop on snake rescue was organised at the forest auditorium in Valmikinagar, located along the Indo-Nepal border in West Champaran district, on Tuesday.The workshop, organised under the aegis of forest division-II of the environment, forest and climate change department, witnessed participation from forest officers and personnel from all five ranges of the division.Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) B K Sinha inaugurated the programme. Senior field officer of the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) Pavel Ghosh, assistant field officer Sunil Kumar and trainer Aditya Tiwari from Lucknow imparted training on snake identification, safe rescue techniques, the use of essential equipment and post-rescue precautions.Valmikinagar ranger Satyam Kumar said, “During the rainy season, waterlogging and disturbances to natural habitats often force snakes and other wild animals into residential areas. In such situations, it is important for forest personnel to respond quickly and safely. The special training has been organised to ensure that snakes can be rescued without causing any harm and released into their natural habitat.”WTI senior field officer Pavel Ghosh said that the workshop, conducted in collaboration with the forest department, trained dozens of forest personnel in identifying venomous and non-venomous snakes, handling them safely and following necessary precautions during rescue operations.
