Nagpur: City shuttlers Sairaj Nayse, Sara Peshkar and Devansh Thaokar won a bronze medal each in their respective doubles events of the Jawaharlal Darda Memorial Maharashtra State Sub-Junior Badminton Tournament, which concluded at Yavatmal on Sunday.

While Sanvi Ghate won a gold and silver medal to hog the limelight, Sairaj paired up with Mumbai’s Satya Chauhan to clinch U-17 doubles bronze, Devansh partnered Kapish Kolhe to register a podium finish in the U-15 section. In the girls’ group, Sara paired up with Pune’s Aadhya Shinde to clinch the U-17 bronze medal.In the U-17 boys doubles, the Nagpur-Mumbai duo of Sairaj and Satya stunned third-seeded Darsh Sarda and Soham Tambe 15-10, 8-15, 15-8 in the quarterfinals to confirm the bronze medal. Their impressive run ended in a closely fought semifinal against the second-seeded pair of Mayuresh Bhutki and Vishvajit Thavil, 15-11, 13-15, 11-15.

In the U-15 boys doubles quarterfinals, Devansh and Kapish overcame the duo of Samarth Kolambekar and Shlok Amberkar 15-11, 15-13 to confirm their bronze medal. The Nagpur pair suffered a 4-15, 11-15 defeat against Hridaan Padve and Vihaan Kolhade in the semifinals.In the U-17 girls’ quarterfinal, Nagpur’s Sara and Pune’s Aadhya prevailed over the fourth-seeded Pune pair of Saee and Shipra Kadam 15-12, 11-15, 15-10. Their campaign concluded with a 3-15, 13-15 semifinal defeat against the top-seeded duo of Sharayu Ranjane and Soyara Shelar.
